SSYO Auditions

Due to COVID-19 changes have been made to the audition process for the 2020-21 season.

Auditions will not take place in-person but through the submission of a video recording of your playing of required excerpts and a piece of your choosing.  Excerpts for auditions can be found on the SSYO website at www.ssyo.ca.  Please note there are excerpts for returning members and for prospective players.

The deadline for submitting an audition recording is June 25.

Please record your submission on a device and then upload to youtube by June 25.

You do not need special equipment to record your audition. Your computer or phone will do.  Here are links to instructions:

SSYO Audition Workshop Opportunity for returning and new members!
Every season our Music Directors strive for the audition process to be relaxed and comfortable.  They want you to feel good about the experience.  In keeping with this tradition and to assist you in the audition process, the SSYO will be hosting an online audition workshop on Monday, June 1 at 7:00pm via Zoom (or at a date/time determined by the workshop leader).

This online opportunity will be organized by instrument and led by a professional musician of the Regina Symphony Orchestra.  Prospective players are most welcome!

The workshop is free of charge and a great opportunity to learn more about the audition process in general and how best to prepare for an audition.  You can play your instrument during the workshop and receive feedback, but no one is required to play.

April 6, 2020 Directors' Message:

Both Rudy and I would like to thank all the SSYO families and especially the orchestra musicians for their work this season. We were saddened to have it end the way it did! The last time we met as an orchestra was the Finlandia rehearsal with Gordon back on March 9th - boy, has a lot changed since then!!

Thank you for your performances in Banff and the Christmas Tea concert. Keep up your practicing - musicians are very used to 'self-isolation' because of practicing. You will never get this opportunity again - to have this much time to devote to your instrument and to grow as musicians. Listen to good music online or with what you have in your own music library. Sight-read some music - get more familiar with the great composers out there - Bach, Mozart, Beethoven etc. Have fun listening to and learning from these special composers. Down the road you will thank me for it.

Rudy Sternadel will be sending out an email to all SSYO families soon in regards to music folder collection.

All the best to all of you and stay safe and stay healthy.

Sincerely,

Al Denike and Rudy Sternadel
